neighborhood news

Dear neighbors,
See the invitation below to attend a Christmas open house at Pennypacker Mills tomorrow! Linda Callegari, a neighbor, works there and has sent me this information. I have been to the open house before and it is indeed beautiful and educational. Enjoy!

We are having our Victorian Christmas Open House at Pennypacker Mills this Saturday, Dec. 8th from 2 to 8 pm. This is a FREE event with a wonderful Santa for kids to enjoy, a bell choir performs all day, inside the mansion it is beautifully decorated in Victorian style with living historians in each room, a clear toy candy demonstration is ongoing, and we have a great Museum Shop with vintage inspired decorations, gifts, and candy for the holidays.

This is a great way for families to get in the spirit of the Christmas holiday and tour one of Montgomery County's historic treasures!

neighborhood news - Parkway opening!

Dear neighbors,
I've forwarded the note below from Senator Greenleaf for your information.  The new parkway opens today! Here is what I found about the opening ceremony:

A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., on the road, just north of County Line Road in Warrington.

Once the ceremonial activities end and all the associated event traffic is off the road, cars and trucks will be free to drive on the road that some have been waiting for for decades.

Enjoy a ride in your car or your bike and see our tax dollars at work! (:

Dear Friends,

Please see the following message from PennDOT regarding the opening of the Route 202 Parkway on Monday.

PennDOT Advises Route 202 Parkway Users to Remain Alert

With the new Route 202 Parkway opening to traffic Monday afternoon, Dec. 3, PennDOT advises area motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to remain alert for changes in local traffic patterns and the presence of other users of the new, 8.4 mile connection between Montgomeryville and Doylestown.

Motorists will find new traffic signals operating at 10 intersections -- most with dedicated left and right turn lanes -- where crossing roads provide access to the Parkway. Drivers are advised to anticipate slowing traffic and possible sudden stops as Parkway users become familiar with entering and exiting the new road and the adjoining shared-use trail head parking areas.

Parkway travelers also are advised to drive with care, especially during initial trips on the new facility, which has four travel lanes between Route 63 (Welsh Road) and Route 463 (Horsham Road) and two lanes from just north of Route 463 (Horsham Road) to Route 611.

Operators of motor vehicles are urged to remain alert for wildlife -- especially deer -- as well as bicyclists on the Parkway's dedicated bicycle lanes and pedestrians using the shared-use path that parallels the entire Parkway between Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Montgomery County and New Britain Road in Bucks County.

Bicyclists and pedestrians also are advised to remain mindful of vehicular traffic and to obey traffic signals at intersections at all times when using, accessing or crossing the Parkway.

PennDOT reminds motorists that the Parkway speed limit is 40 mph.

neighborhood news

Dear neighbors,
Please see the reminder below from Eva about donating canned goods to Philabundance through her...all you have to do is drop them off right in the neighborhood at her house on Cambridge Dr.

Also see the note from Virginia - she is looking for help during her recovery from orthopedic surgery. Please see if you know anyone who would be interested. Contact her directly with names.

Thank you!

To Gwynedd Knoll Friends,

Just a reminder to grab a few cans and/or nonperishable food items to donate to Philabundance.  They are in need of food goods to supply several local food resource centers they support. Many people rely on these centers for daily food needs.  You can drop off items at your convenience on Eva O'Brien's back porch at 1424 Cambridge Drive.  We will be collecting through Friday, November 16th.  Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. Our dream is to have an SUV full of supplies!

Dear Carol

Would you be kind enough to send this out to the neighborhood?

I have been having some on going health issues and may be facing Orthopaedic surgery again in the near future. 'I am looking for someone to work for me giving me a hand with the routine care of my house ( I have a cleaning service for the heavy work), laundry, errands, shopping, transportation at times to my appointments etc.  I may need assistance with my personal care for a period of time. This person needs to own a car and be willing and able to shop for and cook simple meals for 2 persons and herself.
Right now to start and until I know more I think a couple of hours 2 or 3 times per week. It may mean a Saturday or Sunday at times.
I would also entertain the possibility of a live-in if it worked for both of us.
I would like a female and would be happy with a honest retired person who wants to stay busy but doesn't want too much work. This person should be in good health and physically fit.
She should like dogs as I have a very tame well trained German Shepherd who is a service dog for me.
The salary would depend on what situation we would agree upon (a few hours a week versus a live in).
I have needed this kind of help a few times over the years and whomever I had was treated very well in my home and was very happy with the money and living conditions ( if live in she would have her own room and bathroom).
I am hoping that in this large neighborhood someone might know of a person like this either through family and friends or through their religious organizations.

Thanks neighbors for reading this long email. If you do not know someone right now perhaps you might in the future. Please feel free to contact me at any time.

neighborhood news: Philabundance

Dear neighbors,
Sorry...I forgot to add this to my other note just now!

My good neighbor, Eva O'Brien and friend Debbie, over here on Cambridge drive is collecting donations to Philabundance downtown. Please see the note below for items needed. She has made it easy for you....all you have to do is drop off donations on her back porch. I hope you can find the time. Please share this request with anyone else who might be interested.

Dear Friends,
We are all aware of the numerous people suffering from damage or loss of belongings and homes due to Hurricane Sandy.  Thankfully there are various groups asking for monetary donations to aid those who have been affected up and down the coast and inland.
We have been informed that Philabundance located in Philadelphia is in dire need of nonperishable goods.  They supply many food resource banks in the city and beyond, even the Mattie Dixon Food Cupboard in Ambler.  I contacted the Mattie Dixon Cupboard and they are well-stocked at this time.  A food resource center in Philadelphia had to shut down last week due to a lack of food donations. Eva O'Brien and I would like to help them out by collecting nonperishable food items and delivering them to Philabundance.  If you feel like lending a hand to this great organization on which so many people depend, please donate a few items.  Philabundance suggests canned tuna, macaroni and cheese, canned pasta, canned beef stew, canned chili, creamy peanut butter, jelly, canned green beans, canned corn, breakfast cereal and hot cereal.
We would like to deliver the food goods on November 16th.  You may drop off any items on Eva O'Brien's back porch at 1424 Cambridge Drive.  If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 215-542-2398.

Thank you,
Debbie Beardsley

neighborhood news - roofing

Dear neighbors,
Did you see all the big oak trees ripped up at the corner of Meetinghouse Road and 202 when you went to vote? Wow...looks like a tornado went through there!

Please see the note below from a neighbor who would like to have Joyland roofing make the trip out from Lancaster for an estimate to repair. They have done a lot of good work in the neighborhood in the past. If you are also interested in an estimate, please respond to Eunhee directly at eunhee.hwang.pa@gmail.com

Hi Carol,

I'm Eunhee in 1369 Tanglewood.  We experienced a roof damage during the storm and would like to have Joyland roofing from Lancaster to take a look.  Joyland did several roofs in our neighborhood.  I would like to know if there are other neighbors who want Joyland.  In that case, it would be worthwhile for them to come out all the way here from Lancaster.  Any neighbors can send me an email so that I can arrange the details.

Thanks,
Eunhee

neighborhood news

Dear neighbors,
It feels good to be connected again, doesn't it? Our Comcast services finally turned on yesterday (Thursday). Lamplighter Lane next to me regained its power then too...maybe that was related. Please read the note below from Graham who found there may be some compensation from Comcast for days lost. There are still people out of power all around town...and so many huge trees down! I had quite a few trick or treaters on Halloween...I'm glad we were able to make that happen.

Please also see the note below that a neighbor is offering free firewood from the trees in their yard if you would like some! Way to go!

Let me know if there is someway the neighborhood can help you...
Take care,

Hi Carol,

I was just checking to see if the lack of cable (TV/phone/Internet) is just in my home or if our whole neighborhood is out?  Seems odd that we lost power Monday night for 12 hours but are now without cable for going on 3 days.  I called Comcast yesterday and they could give no information (nature of problem, extent of problem, etc) other than cable is down and they are working on it and I was also shocked when I was told that I get no credit for the lost days because Sandy was a natural disaster.  I subsequently sent an email of complaint via Comcast.com and their response is below.  Turns out we do get credit for lost days of service but it may be that we have to formally request it via their website otherwise they might conveniently forget to give it.

Thanks, Graham

Hi Carol -
Thank you for the posts on the Gwynedd Knoll blog.

We live at 1613 Claudia Way and had 4 trees fall during the storm.

Instead of sending the wood to the dump, we are in the process of having them cut up into firewood sized pieces.

So could you let the neighborhood know that there is free cherry/oak firewood in front of our home?

Thanks,

Syed and Huma Ahsan

Good morning!
My house was without power until late yesterday afternoon and I still don't have my Comcast services. Hope you all are doing all right after the storm. So many trees down everywhere around town. In case you haven't been out on 202 - there is a huge tree down where Meetinghouse road comes out to 202 and it took power lines with it. It was still closed off as of this morning. You have to detour on Swede rd or through Foulkeways from our side.

I'm assuming Halloween trick or treating should still take place tonight? Please let me know if you have heard anything different. Also,if you need a neighbor's help, please let me know!
Take care,
Carol

neighborhood news...meeting Wednesday Oct 24

Dear Neighbors,
Just a reminder that our meeting with Lower Gwynedd Township officials, Kate Harper, and Penn DOT is scheduled for Wednesday, October 24th at 7 pm at the Township Building. Topics include the impact of traffic in our neighborhood as evidenced by the placement of large 202 directional signs in our neighborhood and landscaping/maintenance of the sound wall (which is currently filled with weeds). We are also hoping that plans for the completion of landscaping include fast growing tall evergreens that cover the sound wall year round. This week Penndot has added metal barriers all along the sound walls and they are continued into the gateway to our neighborhood on both sides. Please drive or walk by and come to the meeting to express your opinion.

In addition, please bring any other questions/concerns. Now is the time to voice our concerns as the highway is set to open in early December.  Please plan to attend this important meeting.
Thanks very much!

News for Immediate Release

Oct. 11, 2012

New U.S. Route 202 Parkway to Open in Early December

$200 Million Parkway to Provide Direct Route between Routes 63 and 611

King of Prussia – The $200 million U.S. Route 202 Parkway will open in early December to enhance travel between Montgomeryville, Montgomery County and Doylestown, Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

"We are eager to finish the remaining work along the nearly nine-mile-long Parkway so we can open the new roadway and its shared-use path to commuters, bicyclists and pedestrians," PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said. "The Parkway is nearly completed but contractors will work the next few weeks to wrap up a number of project-related tasks."

The remaining items include extensive landscaping with more than 10,000 deciduous trees, shrubs and perennials that will be planted along the corridor during the specified planting season of Oct. 15 to Nov. 30.  Also, crews still need to paint traffic lines; install highway signs, and install other miscellaneous highway related items.

Crews also must finish the installation of Intelligent Transportation System equipment (highway cameras, variable message signs, travel time readers, traffic monitors that automatically adjust traffic signals to enhance traffic flow); convert drainage basins for storm water control; finish the intersection of County Line Road and the Parkway; and complete work along the widened stretch of Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Route 63 (Welsh Road) and Hancock Road.

When opened later this year, the new 8.4-mile-long Parkway will give motorists a direct route for travel along Route 202 between Route 63 (Welsh Road) and Route 611 in Montgomery, Warrington and Doylestown townships. The Parkway will carry a 40 mph speed limit and the designation of U.S. Route 202 upon its opening in early December.

The state-funded Parkway features four 11-foot-wide travel lanes, two in each direction, between Route 63 and Route 463 in Montgomery County, and two 11-foot-wide travel lanes, one in each direction, from north of Route 463 to its connection with Route 611 in Bucks County.

There are 10 signalized intersections along the corridor at Route 202 (DeKalb Pike); Route 63 (Welsh Road); Knapp Road; connector ramp to Route 309; Costco Drive; Route 463 (Horsham Road); County Line Road; Route 152 (Limekiln Pike); Bristol Road; and Lower State Road.

Accompanying the Parkway is a 12-foot-wide, shared-use path and 19 access points to the path. Five trailhead parking areas were built along the Parkway at Knapp Road, Route 309, Stump Road near County Line Road intersection, Bristol Road and New Britain Road.

Aesthetically, the Parkway features extensive landscaping; decorative patterns and stained concrete on all roadway barriers, culverts, retaining walls and bridge surfaces to simulate a traditional, stone appearance; 14,300 linear feet of landscaped earth berms; landscaped median islands; and riparian buffer plantings along wetlands and waterways.

Visit www.us202-700.com for more information on the Route 202 Parkway.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to www.511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.

For more PennDOT information, visit www.dot.state.pa.us. Follow local PennDOT information on Twitter at www.twitter.com/511PAPhilly.

Hi Carol - I wanted to send along information about a very talented, wonderful resource who has helped me tremendously both in my business and busy personal life.

Tracey Miles is the founder and owner of "Just2Much2Do" which she founded while still working at Merck a number of years ago; it has since become her full-time business.  Here is a brief overview of her company.  I need to personally say that I don't know what I would have done without her in the past few years. She is an amazingly capable person with diverse skills who can "plug" most of the holes for you in your personal life, caring for elderly parents, businesses, work with non-profits, and more. I have trusted her with amazingly confidential information, and she has helped bring order back into our lives, working with our insurance companies, reorganizing clutter in our house, financial analysis in my business, and more.   If anyone would like to talk to me personally about her services, I am more than happy to do so.  Thanks for sharing the good news about a tremendously valuable service.   - Julia Wagner, Tanglewood Drive, 267-254-8605

She's a brown/grey medium sized dog and was found on Tanglewood Drive around noon.  She's really sweet with a short tail but doesn't have a collar so I don't know who she belongs to.  She's safe here at my house on Lamplighter Lane! As a runner, I know that good shoes are essential to being physically fit and to participating in athletic activities. Therefore, as part of my bar-mitzvah project, I am hosting a drive on behalf of Cradles to Crayons (C2C) to collect athletic shoes and other shoes for these children.

Cradles to Crayons is a local charity that provides everyday essentials, warm clothes, shoes, books, and school supplies to homeless and low-income children in the Philadelphia area. I volunteer at this amazing charity that is able to help thousands of kids each year.

I live at 1255 Turnbury Lane (in a tudor style house) and will be placing a bin on my driveway by my garage for donations of new or used shoes, boots, sneakers, and sandals (infant/childsizes 0–13 and youth/adult sizes 1–12).

If you would prefer, I will come and pick up the shoes up at your house. Just email me at brendancantos@gmail.com or my mom at ischermcan@comcast.net.

Thanks very much to all of my fantastic neighbors! I appreciate your help and look forward to hearing back from you as I want to try to collect as many shoes as possible!!

From,

Brendan Cantos

Carol,

Would you kindly share this information with anyone in the neighborhood looking for a piano teacher?  My son has studied with Joanne Prescott of Upper Dublin for almost 10 years.  We have been extremely pleased with Joanne.  My son didn't start taking lessons until he was 11.  With Joanne's help, he was able to progress to the point where he successfully auditioned for lessons at Dartmouth College and now is a music minor there.  Because of Joanne's emphasis on composition, my son was able to include a CD of his original piano compositions as part of his college applications.  I would highly recommend Joanne.  Anyone interested in more information should contact me at (215) 699-8137 or Joanne Prescott directly at (215) 643-3582.

Thanks so much, Carol!

Sincerely,
Nancy Smith

Dear Neighbors,
I am sure by now you are aware of the abundance of weeds and dead shrubs along the sound walls/barriers of 202. In addition, several large 202 signs have been stationed within our neighborhood along Hancock as you exit the development. Linda Callegari and I have been in touch with Larry Comunale, the township manager, requesting a neighborhood meeting with the township and PENNDOT. In particular we want to discuss the landscaping/contract along the sound wall/barriers and obtain information about the anticipated impact of traffic on our neighborhood prior to the opening of the highway.

In response to this request, Mr. Comunale just informed us that the township thought it was a good idea and is coordinating these efforts through Kate Harper's office. We emphasized that we want this meeting to occur in a timely fashion before the contractor completes the work this fall.

We certainly want to make sure that promises are kept for nice landscaping/ivy along the sound wall, including regular maintenance to make it aesthetically more acceptable. We have been informed that PENNDOT will address the completion of plants with a 1 year guarantee and weeding this fall, but said they are not under a contract to continue with maintenace.   In addition, we want to have them address safety issues to our neighborhood including minimizing outside traffic. This situation affects as all. We will let you know  when the meeting is scheduled and hope we have a strong attendance. If you have any questions or suggestions in the meantime, let's use the Gwynedd Knoll email  as our sounding board.
Sincerely,
Gwen Douse

neighborhood news - soundwalls

Neighbors,
Please read below a note from Linda who is faithfully following up with our township on landscaping issues for the soundwalls on 202. Many thanks to Linda for her hard work!

Carol...Just rec'd a reply to my email to Larry Communale at LGT regarding the planting of Boston Ivy on the sound barriers on 202. I had remembered that a few years ago this was discussed and everyone seemed to like the idea. I had not heard anything about this so I inquired of Penndot and they indicated that they were willing to discuss this with the Township. Larry did the followup with Penndot and emailed me this evening that Penndot landscape contractors would begin planting the ivy in August. Not the best time of the year to plant anything, but I understand that there is a one-year warranty on all planted items.

Additionally, I asked Penndot when they would begin mowing their grass (now weeds) along the sound barriers as it was getting so  high that the dead plantings weren't visible. They indicated that by mistake they had left out this work from the contract and would be rectifying it soon. I also asked Larry C. to check with Penndot as a Township official as it looks so bad.

Please pass this info along to our hood as I'm sure everyone will be thrilled that ivy will soon begin covering those hideous walls!!!! YES!~

neighborhood news

Dear neighbors,
See two notes below from our neighbor, Linda Callegari, who does a great job keeping us informed! One is unfortunately about a recent spree of robberies...please be on the alert for any unusual activity in our neighborhood! The second one is about the 202 parkway construction. FYI - we recently took a bike ride along the path next to the parkway starting by the Wawa on Welsh road...it was a really neat ride! There is a wide paved path and plantings all along the way. It is quite peaceful now while the road is still closed. You can ride all the way up to Doylestown somewhere if you are inspired!

Dear Friends & Neighbors: Below are two short news articles from the Lower Gwynedd/Whitpain/Ambler Patch that indicate that there has been a recent spree of robberies in the area... both residences & businesses. Please remind everyone to lock home windows and cars. We should all be keeping an eye out for unknown cars or people in the neighborhood and call the police when concerned. I've done it and they do stop the people and talk to them. I'd rather have suspicious people checked out than to think after a robbery that I should have called.

Two lower level residences in the Georgetown community in Lower Gwynedd Township were burglarized while vacant early Monday evening.

In the one residence, entry was gained by forcibly opening the front door, and the apartment was ransacked. In the other, entry to the apartment was gained through an open rear window and only small items were taken. There were also a eight reports of thefts from vehicles overnight on Monday that occurred in the Spring House and Ambler sections of the township. Police are unsure if the thefts are related to the residential burglaries. Anyone with information on the burglaries or on the thefts from vehicles are asked to call the Lower Gwynedd Police Department at 215-646-5303.

In the early morning hours of July 10, four Lower Gwynedd businesses were broken into. All four businesses, Valley Green Flowers and Gifts, Cigars Unlimited, Fast Twitch Training, Inc; and Spring House Tavern, are located on North Bethlehem Pike in the township. According to the Lower Gwynedd Police, the Cigars Unlimited surveillance footage from 2:30 a.m. on July 10, showed a white male or light skin black male, reaching across the counter while partially through the window to remove the cash register. Police said the footage shows the male wearing gloves and is wearing something to cover his head and face. At Spring House Tavern, surveillance footage from 2:40 a.m. on July 10, shows two subjects enter a rear window. In total the police are reporting that the subjects stole a Nokia cell phone and the cash box with $200 from Valley Green Flowers and Gifts; the cash register containing approximately $4 in change from Cigars Unlimited; $60 from the cash register at Fast Twitch Training; and nothing was reported missing at Spring House Tavern.

For those of you who do not use the local Patch, it's easy to receive their daily emails and very informative. Just go to AOL patch.com, click on Pennsylvania, then click on our three-town patch.

Roadwork Continues Next Week for New Route 202 Parkway

King of Prussia - Construction is scheduled for next week to improve and restore roads in Montgomery and Bucks counties as crews work to complete the Route 202 Parkway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

The new 8.4-mile, $200 million state-funded Parkway is scheduled to open this fall to improve travel between Montgomeryville and Doylestown.

Crews are scheduled to resurface the widened intersection of Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Lower Gwynedd, Upper Gwynedd and Montgomery townships, Montgomery County, and restore left turn lanes at the intersection.  Weather permitting, crews will resurface and paint lines at the intersection on Monday (July 16) from 7 p.m. to approximately midnight, an operation that will result in nighttime travel delays on both roads.

Road construction also may cause occasional lane restrictions Monday through Friday (July 16-20) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Swedesford and Knapp roads, and on Route 63 (Welsh Road) between Stump and North Wales roads.

The ongoing installation of traffic signal components will cause periodic lane closures at intersections along Route 202 (Butler Avenue/Doylestown Road) between Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) in Montgomery Township and Route 611 in Doylestown Township on Monday through Thursday (July 16-19) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Similar improvements to traffic signals on Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) in Montgomery County may cause lane closures Monday through Thursday (July 16-19) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the Five Points intersection in Montgomery Township and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Lower Gwynedd Township.

Periodic lane closures will occur for guiderail installation on southbound Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) north of the Five Points intersection on Monday through Thursday (July 16-19) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New Britain Road in Doylestown Township, Bucks County remains closed through late August as PennDOT rebuilds and improves a section of the road between Sunset View Drive and Rolling Hill Boulevard.

Area motorists should anticipate delays and add extra time for travel through the construction areas. All planned activities are contingent on the weather.

Visit www.us202-700.com for more information on the Route 202 Parkway.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to www.511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.

Thank you for the update.  I wanted to continue to send out an "alert" regarding the incredible number of cars who drive right through the STOP signs as you get to Hancock road and 202.  If we had a police car sitting down here at the end of Hancock road – they would make a fortune issuing tickets and perhaps even help to save a life.  Really, NO ONE stops and there have been near miss hits of some of the "walkers" in the neighborhood.   My home office looks right at the Stop signs/Hancock Road.  It's scary to see the cars and trucks not stop and the number of cars/trucks who come into Hancock Road and then make a turnaround in our driveways or in the middle of the street.    Be careful --- when you drive down Hancock Road to exit to 202….the deer are strolling in the street and the cars are coming right at you.

neighborhood news

Dear neighbors,
Please see below for a note regarding progress on 202 sent to me by our neighbor, Gwen. The dates listed are for last week...I apologize for not getting it out then. But typically the construction lasts a little longer than planned doesn't it? The note does mentions a planned completion for this fall. We have seen that in previous notes - hopefully it will happen that way! I did note recently that the sound walls seem to be completed and all the same color now. No evidence of ivy planted yet but I guess that will be awhile! (:

Also...if you missed Lower Gwynedd's electronic recycling earlier this spring....there will be a Montgomery county collection close by at Wissahickon High on June 30 from 9 am to 3 pm. This event will be for electronics only. (Thanks to Katherine for keeping us informed.)

I received an amazing amount of replies to my question about fox sightings! We definitely have a family or two of foxes living in the 'hood now.  I have tried to summarize suggestions below:

From Donna: http://www.aaanimalcontrol.com/Professional-Trapper/county/PA-Montgomery-County-Animal-Services.htm Like the deer, Red Fox have been in our neighborhood since we moved in over 25 years ago.  I too have noticed that the fox and the deer are alittle confused and have seen both walking down the middle of the street where I live on Hancock Road.I am guessing this is due to the disturbance of the woods and 202 road development and the animals are perhaps trying to get resituated.Perhaps this web site if of help?  Most important is to remember not to go near any wild animal or feed the animals.

From Tracy:I am an animal lover, but the most important thing is to not put or leave food out where the animal can get it. Also keep an eye on your pets, this fox walks in our back yard although I have 3 dogs. When my dogs cornered a fox a couple of years ago they got mange. As long as the animal is not acting strange, by that I mean it should not be friendly, or coming too close to humans especially in daylight hours I would let it be.

From Sue: A couple of months ago, I saw trucks/SUV's on the road in this general area that advertise the use of border collies to chase off/control Canadian Geese. You might try doing an internet search on Canadian Geese + border collie. If they can't help, perhaps they might be able to inform you of other local animal control companies.

From Tish: I
would hope that the local ASPCA could help.

From Misc:
the Wissahickon water shed,

Maybe someone could call the Elmwood Park Zoo to get advice on what to do?

The Aark in Chalfont or Schuykill Valley Nature Ctr would take it but I don't know if they'd come get it.

Several people mentioned the Schuylkill Center....

Gwen Douse will coordinate anyone who wants to help contact some of these places to see if there is help available. Please contact her at gdouse@comcast.net directly. In the meantime, please keep in mind the advice not to feed or encourage the foxes in your yard!

Congratulations to all the graduates in the neighborhood!!

Paving and Signal Work Schedule for Route 202 Parkway Project

Paving and traffic signal operations are scheduled next week (June 4-8) as part of the construction of the $200 million Route 202 Parkway in Bucks and Montgomery counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

PennDOT is building the new 8.4-mile-long roadway to improve travel and ease congestion along the Route 202 Corridor between Montgomeryville and Doylestown. The Parkway is scheduled to open this fall.

Crews will pave the west side of Route 202 (DeKalb Pike), which is being widened between Swedesford Road and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Upper Gwynedd, Lower Gwynedd and Montgomery townships, on Monday through Friday (June 4-8) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic slowdowns are expected in this area.

Hancock Road also will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers at the intersection with Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) during the paving operation.

In addition, drivers may face periodic delays for the ongoing widening of Route 63 (Welsh Road) between Stump Road and North Wales Road on Monday through Friday (June 4-8) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The installation of new traffic signal components will result in periodic short-term lane closures at existing signalized
intersections on Route 202 and Route 309 on Monday through Thursday (June 4-7) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Signal work will take place at the following locations:

•Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) between the Five Points intersection in Montgomeryville and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Lower Gwynedd Township; and

•Route 202 (Doylestown Road/Butler Avenue) between the Five Points intersection in Montgomeryville and Route 611 in New Britain and Doylestown townships.

Drivers should anticipate delays and add extra time for travel through the construction areas. All planned activities are contingent on the weather.

neighborhood news - traffic alert

Dear neighbors,
See the note below about road closures and slow downs coming this week. Thank you to Gwen for forwarding this!

Thank you to all who have responded to my note about seeing a fox in the 'hood...I was surprised how many people have seen one or more! It sounds like we have a family of foxes around - most are healthy looking but one is not. There were several suggestions for moving them. I will put them together and forward to Gwen and family...and update you for your information...another day when it is not so late. (:

Have a great week!

Subject: Stump Road Detour, Weekday Lane Closures on Route 202, Route 309 for Parkway Construction in Bucks and Montgomery Counties

The installation of new traffic signal components will result in periodic lane closures at signalized intersections along Route 202 and a section of Route 309 on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Signal work will take place at the following locations:

•Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) between the Five Points intersection in Montgomeryville and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Lower Gwynedd Township, and
•Route 202 (Doylestown Road/Butler Avenue) between the Five Points intersection in Montgomeryville and Route 611 in New Britain and Doylestown townships.

Roadwork related to the construction of the $200 million Route 202 Parkway in Bucks and Montgomery County will result in the closure of Stump Road in New Britain Township and periodic lane restrictions along Route 202 and Route 309 next week, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

PennDOT is building the new 8.4-mile long Parkway to enhance travel and ease congestion between Montgomeryville and Doylestown. The Parkway is scheduled to open this fall.

Stump Road will be closed to through traffic between County Line Road and Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) for three days for reconstruction. The work is part of the ongoing $13.5 million project to widen County Line Road between Stump Road and Route 202 (Doylestown Road/Butler Avenue) to provide increased capacity for motorists heading to and from the Parkway.

The Stump Road detour will be in place from 7 a.m. Monday (May 14) through Wednesday afternoon (May 16), weather permitting. Through traffic will be diverted over County Line Road, Upper State Road and Route 152 (Limekiln Pike).

Drivers in Upper Gwynedd, Lower Gwynedd and Montgomery townships may face slowdowns on Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Swedesford Road and Route 63 (Welsh Road) and on Route 63 (Welsh Road) between Stump Road and North Wales Road on Monday through Friday (May 14-18) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for ongoing road widening.

Intermittent lane closures and brief stoppages also may occur Monday through Friday (May 14-18) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) between Stump Road and Route 202 (Butler Pike) in New Britain and Warrington townships and on County Line Road between Upper State Road and Stump Road in New Britain, Warrington and Montgomery townships for road construction.

Drivers should anticipate delays and add extra time for travel through the construction areas. All planned activities are contingent on the weather.

Visit www.us202-700.com for more information on the Route 202 Parkway.

Carol,
My son, Jason, sent a message to you a few weeks ago about a fox that has been wandering through our neighborhood. He appears to be young and looking for food. We are asking if anyone knows if there is help we can get in relocating the fox to an environment that is safe. He continues to roam the neighborhood. (The police were not able to help). Please let our neighbors know.
Thank you,
Gwen Douse
