neighborhood news 1

Dear neighbors,
Happy holidays!  I have copied a note below from Linda Callegari, a neighbor who works for Pennypacker Mills, about some holiday programs. I've been out to the home and it is beautiful - I can imagine at Christmas it is especially nice!

Also, see the flyer attached from Cheryl Nagleberg, a neighbor who makes beautiful jewelry. She is having an open house on Thursday and Friday this week.

Lastly, please see the request below from a neighbor for a heating system repair person. Please respond to Mary Lou directly and copy me in so I can add it to our growing directory.

Thank you - and enjoy our beautiful neighborhood at night this season...we are getting brighter and brighter with all the decorative lighting! (:

Carol, Please send this out to the neighbors for me. I'm sure there are families with children and grandkids who are looking for exciting and low-cost holiday experiences to enjoy this season! Thanks! Linda

Dear Friends,
Thought I would share with you what's happening at Pennypacker Mills for the Christmas holidays.

We have a beautifully decorated, Victorian themed Governor's mansion that will knock your socks off! Each room is themed on historic Christmas greeting cards this year. Holiday Tours are Tuesday thru Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm and on Sunday, 1 to 4 pm. FREE. We are closed Mondays and major holidays.

Our Museum Shop is stocked with wonderful Christmas tree decorations very similar to the real ones we have on display in our Christmas exhibit. We are selling Wilbur Bud chocolates in gift boxes, which are made by a company which originally was located in Philadelphia, but now resides in Litiz, Lancaster Co. These chocolates are shaped like a Hershey Kiss, but oh so much smoother chocolate and yummy. We have an enormous selection of Clear Toy Candy, which every child wanted 100 years ago. These three-dimensional lollypop type candies were a favorite for stocking stuffers and also for display in the dining room.

For those with children in the family, we have a wonderful Open House scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13 from 2 to 8 pm. This is a FREE event. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to meet with children. Great photo opportunities here so don't forget to bring the camera! There will be a bell choir playing on our porch throughout the day. You can hear the chimes echoing down the pathway as you approach.

Inside the mansion, you are greeted by a servant in 20th century clothing, then walk to each room and hear about the holiday traditions of this time period. Our living historians will be in each room in period clothing, wrapping presents, toasting the New Year, making Moravian Stars, singing along with the pump organ, and much more. From 2 to 5 pm we have a Clear Toy Candy making demonstration. Very interesting! The Museum Shop will be bustling with activity as well.

Note: We are only about 40 mins from Lower Gwynedd for those of you who are neighbors. This is a Montgomery County historic site and is just a wonderful holiday experience for everyone in the region. Why go into Philadelphia when you can get that holiday experience right in your own backyard and for FREE!

Any questions, call the site at 610-287-9349.

Thanks so much...hope to see some of you at the Mills!

Merry Christmas!

Linda
