neighborhood news

Dear neighbors,
Please see the notes below for an opportunity help support a neighbor teen in her worthy charity project and a recommendation of a piano teacher. Hope you can help with the project by donating some shoes for needy kids!

Hope all is well with your families in this new school year...hasn't the weather been wonderful? (:

Dear neighbors,

Many children in the Philadelphia area are in desperate need of shoes for the school year. As a runner, I know that good shoes are essential to being physically fit and to participating in athletic activities. Therefore, as part of my bar-mitzvah project, I am hosting a drive on behalf of Cradles to Crayons (C2C) to collect athletic shoes and other shoes for these children.

Cradles to Crayons is a local charity that provides everyday essentials, warm clothes, shoes, books, and school supplies to homeless and low-income children in the Philadelphia area. I volunteer at this amazing charity that is able to help thousands of kids each year.

I live at 1255 Turnbury Lane (in a tudor style house) and will be placing a bin on my driveway by my garage for donations of new or used shoes, boots, sneakers, and sandals (infant/childsizes 0–13 and youth/adult sizes 1–12).

If you would prefer, I will come and pick up the shoes up at your house. Just email me at brendancantos@gmail.com or my mom at ischermcan@comcast.net.

Thanks very much to all of my fantastic neighbors! I appreciate your help and look forward to hearing back from you as I want to try to collect as many shoes as possible!!

From,

Brendan Cantos

Carol,

Would you kindly share this information with anyone in the neighborhood looking for a piano teacher?  My son has studied with Joanne Prescott of Upper Dublin for almost 10 years.  We have been extremely pleased with Joanne.  My son didn't start taking lessons until he was 11.  With Joanne's help, he was able to progress to the point where he successfully auditioned for lessons at Dartmouth College and now is a music minor there.  Because of Joanne's emphasis on composition, my son was able to include a CD of his original piano compositions as part of his college applications.  I would highly recommend Joanne.  Anyone interested in more information should contact me at (215) 699-8137 or Joanne Prescott directly at (215) 643-3582.

Thanks so much, Carol!

Sincerely,
Nancy Smith
