Traffic Alert:
Left Turn Lanes at Routes 202/63 Intersection to
Open Tuesday Afternoon

After a light construction schedule for Independence Day week, PennDOT crews are back at it with a full schedule next week.

Route 202
Here's some good news! Crews are scheduled to wrap up work to establish left turn lanes at two approaches to the intersection of Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) and Route 63 (Welsh Road) this week. Weather permitting, flaggers will direct a single lane of traffic in each direction through the intersection on Monday and Tuesday, July 11-12, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The turning lanes are expected to be operational on Tuesday afternoon on Route 202 South and Route 63 West. This will surely improve both safety and traffic flow.

Periodic lane closures are also planned in the following locations next week, Monday through Friday, July 11-15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
            • Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Sumneytown Pike and Knapp Road.
            • Route 63 (Welsh Road) between Stump Road and Bell Run Boulevard.
            • Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) between Stump Road and Route 202 (Butler Avenue).
            • Upper State Road between County Line and Pickertown roads.
            • County Line Road between Stump and Upper State roads.

Just as a reminder, other travel restrictions remain in effect, including the closure of Wells Road between Lower State and Turk roads; permanent closure of Detweiler Road between Stump and Upper State roads; and the closure of Lower State Road to northbound traffic between Bristol and Almshouse roads.

The Blue Route
Nighttime lane closures are planned Wednesday and Thursday, July 13-14, for bridge construction at the I-76 interchange (Exit 16). One of two northbound lanes on the northbound side of the highway will be closed at the bridge from 10 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning.

Drivers also should be alert for slow-moving construction vehicles entering and leaving the northbound express lane (on the southbound side of the highway) between the I-76 (Exit 16) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) interchanges.

Finally, Ridge Pike motorists will encounter slowdowns and intermittent traffic stoppages between Chemical and Alan Wood roads in Plymouth Township from 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, until 6 a.m. Thursday, July 14, for ramp construction at the I-476 overpass.

Northeast Extension
Demolition and excavation work is planned at the Jolly Road Bridge this week, Monday through Friday, July 11-15, from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Also, Jolly Road will close to local traffic for nighttime work from 6 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Drivers on the Turnpike's mainline will find single-lane closures from 9 p.m. through 6 a.m.

  • North Wales Road: PECO's contractor will be installing poles and cables Thursday, June 2, and Friday, June 3, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic will be flagger-controlled with intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Skippack Pike: PECO's contractor will be installing poles and cables Thursday, June 2, and Friday, June 3, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic will be flagger-controlled with intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Additional utility work, excavation and general construction are planned in Plymouth, Whitpain and Worcester townships; however, these activities are not expected to impact traffic.
