neighborhood news

Dear neighbors,
This traffic note is from last week but I wanted to be sure you know about the bridge opening up in Upper Gwynedd. The 202 and Welsh rd news looks about the same each week. But Rt 309 is looking positively beautiful, isn't it? (:

I also had another neighbor write about the merits of the Gwynedd Valley post office as follows:
I've had a PO BOX at Gwynedd Valley since 1986 and the service is excellent.  Carol Collins has been the postmaster there for over 30 years and the hours are great!  And the window is opened all morning on Saturday.  The mail is always in the right POB and she is super organized.  And her other employee Kim is just as efficient.  They know all the box holders and will be glad to help you out.  And the drive is only 2 miles, NO TRAFFIC.

I also had a note recommending a contractor from Virgina Samhouri:
Hi to All
I have a contractor's name to pass onto the neighborhood whom I highly recommend.
He does everything from drywall to plumbing to vanities to decks.
He is a licensed builder.  His website describes all the types of work he does.
Name:  Jack O'Shura  Phone 215-721-1825   cell 267-446-1341

Hope you all are getting outdoors to enjoy this beautiful weather...finally spring is really here!

Traffic Alert: When One Road Closes Another Opens – North Wales Road to Close Today; Morris Road Bridge Over Turnpike to Reopen

.
Good news! The Morris Road Bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Upper Gwynedd Township will reopen to traffic late this afternoon or early evening. The work was being done in conjunction with the northern section of the Northeast Extension reconstruction and expansion project. Another detour to cross off the list!

However, there is also a new addition to the list of detours in the area. Also starting today, a section of North Wales Road in Worcester, Upper Gwynedd and Whitpain townships will be closed and detoured due to the project to realign the intersection of North Wales and Morris roads. The road is expected to remain closed through the end of July.

During construction, North Wales Road traffic will be detoured over Route 73 (Skippack Pike), Bethel Road and Morris Road. Motorists should allow extra time when traveling through the area.

Other area traffic restrictions are planned as follows:

Route 202
Motorists may encounter daytime lane closures along the Route 202 corridor this week, May 2-6. Work is planned at the following locations, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily:
• Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Sumneytown Pike and Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike), 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
• Route 63 (Welsh Road) from Stump Road to Bell Run Boulevard, located east of North Wales Road, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
• County Line Road between Route 202 (Butler Avenue) and Woodland Drive, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
• Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) between Stump Road and Route 202 (Butler Avenue), 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
• Upper State Road between County Line and Pickertown roads, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Wells Road in Doylestown Township remains detoured for Parkway construction between Lower State and Turk roads, and Detwiler Road is closed permanently between Stump and Upper State roads in Warrington Township. Additionally, northbound Lower State Road is closed and detoured between Bristol and Almshouse roads in Doylestown Township for reconstruction of a bridge over the Neshaminy Creek (unrelated to Parkway project).

Blue Route
Nighttime lane closures are planned in on the Blue Route this week, May 1-7, between the Interstate 76 (Exit 16) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) interchanges.

In addition, motorists using the I-76 ramps to reach I-476 North will be required to stop at the top of the ramps before merging onto I-476 through Friday, May 6, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

• One of the two northbound lanes on the northbound side of the highway will be closed from north of the bridge over the Schuylkill River to the Ridge Pike Interchange (Exit 18) from 9 p.m. Friday, May 6, through 8 a.m. Saturday, May 7, for a traffic shift at the interchange.
• One of the three lanes on southbound I-476 will be closed from the Germantown Pike Interchange (Exit 20) to the Blue Ridge Pike Interchange (Exit 18), from 9 p.m. Saturday, May 7, through 8 a.m. Sunday, May 8, for a traffic shift.
Also, eastbound Ridge Pike will be reduced to a single lane between Chemical and Alan Wood roads in Plymouth Township on Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7, from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.

I-76
Overnight lane closures are planned on Interstate 76 Sunday through Thursday, May 1-5, in Upper Merion Township due to replacement of bridge expansion joints.
• One westbound lane will be closed between Route 202 and Mall Boulevard Tuesday through Friday, May 3-5, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Fitzwatertown Road Water Main Replacement
Aqua Pennsylvania will close and detour Fitzwatertown Road between Route 611 (Easton Road) and Mansfield Road in Upper Moreland Township starting Monday, May 9. The road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through July 29.

During construction, through traffic will be detoured over Mill Road, Route 611 (Easton Road) and Route 263 (Old York Road).
