It is that time of year again - Progressive Dinner Time!!! We are very excited to get everyone together again this year and it will follow a similar format as the dinner last year - heavy appetizers/drinks at one house and another house for dessert.  The dinner is scheduled for March 24, 2012 at 6:30 (for heavy appetizers) and 9:00 (for dessert). First, we need 2 families willing to host us for both portions of the evening. If you host, you do not need to provide any food. For the rest of the participants - the theme is Around the World. Please bring a heavy appetizer or dessert and a drink to share from a specific country. We have created a Google Doc for sign up/rsvp purposes. The link is below. Please sign up accordingly. Just type in the document as if you were typing on any program. The Google Doc automatically saves and all participants can view your changes. If you bring an appetizer, do not sign up for dessert, if you bring a dessert, do not sign up for appetizer, but drinks should accompany whatever you bring. Be creative! We will certainly need more appetizers than dessert. Also, please do not repeat if possible.

I am bringing this to your attention again because this spring, I am hosting the Gwynedd site for the Lancaster Farm Fresh CSA. 

In a nutshell, you pay up front for the spring and summer season, then you get a weekly delivery of organic vegetables, varying according to what is harvested that week.  The vegetables are harvested the day before you get it.  You can't get any fresher than that!  And, it's so convenient, now that there is a Gwynedd Knoll pickup site.  

I've purchased a half-share of vegetables and a full-share of fruit.   I love the fact that I've been exposed to vegetables I'd never even heard of before.  All the science supports that eating a wide variety of vegetables offers the best nutrition.  I hope you will give some serious thought to this, because it is not only good for your health, but good for the environment, as well.

If anyone has questions they can contact the CSA directly, or I would be happy to guide you through the process.  They have a website and a Facebook page, so anyone can take a look there, too.

 This survey is being conducted by the Pennsylvania Lyme disease Awareness Committee (PLDAC).  The PDLAC is a collaboration of the Chester/Delaware Farm Bureau, the Lyme Disease Association of Southeastern PA, Inc. and the Chester County health Department.  The committee is dedicated to educating residents on the risks, prevention, symptoms, and treatment options of Lyme disease and promoting federal and state legislative initiatives that provide funds for research and treatment of Lyme disease and protection of physicians.

Results from the survey will be used to educate policymakers about the true impact of Lyme disease in the daily life of Pennsylvania residents and help further educate residents about the disease.

I have just one note to pass on today...a giving opportunity our neighbor Eva O'Brien is coordinating:

 We are collecting used DVDs to donate to the local VA Hospital.  Would you mind sending an email to the hood asking anyone who wants to donate used dvds that they no longer want. The movies will be for soldiers to watch so no "kid" movies please. They can put them on my back porch at 1424 Cambridge Dr. - we have a For Sale sign out front.  We are collecting until Wednesday the 21st.

I would like to wish you all a very Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas! The neighborhood is looking quite festive with all the lights up. Enjoy this season with your family and friends. (:

On Sunday 12/4/11 starting at 1 PM at WHS, the team will hold its first annual Basket Bingo Fundraiser.

PRESS RELEASE

November 11, 2011

                                                    

On Nov 5^th at 10:00 am police received information from the parents of two juvenile males regarding a suspicious incident that occurred in the 600 block of Cathcart Rd. The boys reported to their parents that while they were walking along, a tan mid-sized car drove past the boys, and then turned around.  The driver, described as a white male in his 30's or 40's, short salt and pepper hair, with an Irish accent asked the boys to get into his car. The boys ran home and reported the incident to their parent.

 

After this incident was reported, police received information regarding two other suspicious vehicles driving through different neighborhoods in Whitpain Township. The first suspicious vehicle occurred on Sunday Nov 6^th at approximately 3:00 pm and was described as a tan or gold vehicle, possibly a Taurus with driver door damage, driving slowly in the 800 block of Valley Road. The driver was described as an older, possibly a w/m with a darker complexion.

 

The second incident occurred two weeks prior to the incident on Cathcart Rd. In that incident a homeowner reported a gray or cream colored vehicle was driving slowly in the area of the 1500 block of Penllyn Pk. The driver of this vehicle was reported as a w/m approximately 40 yrs old and the resident stated that it appeared as if he was staring at her 10 year old son. No children were approached or spoken to in either of the second two incidents. Whitpain Township Police are requesting that anyone with additional information regarding these incident, to please contact the Police Department at 610-279-9033.

 

Parents are asked to speak to their children about safety tips for when they are out.  Stay with friends while outside playing, don't talk with strangers, don't ever get into a car with someone that you do not know,  if someone is following them either by foot or in a car, run in another direction. If someone does approach them, make sure they report it to you or another trusted adult. Additional safety tips can be found at www.missingkids.com, the website for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Please remember that our annual Halloween parade  will take place this Sunday, 10/30 from 3:30 - 4:30 in the Turnbury cul de sac. Heather has had a good response so far, with at least 35 children attending, but there are definitely some families out there that still haven't responded.  Please see the flyer attached for information. Heather would appreciate an RSVP email to her so she can be sure to have enough food and supplies.
